Nike basketball in the ‘90’s was a classic time for sneakers. Back in the mid-90s (1995 to be exact), Nike came out with a new breed of basketball sneakers made for a new breed of players. Think of big players such as Scottie Pippen that were as versatile, fast and athletic as the smaller guards. One of those sneakers that Nike came out with was the Nike Air Max Uptempo 95.
This model was labeled as a “speedy” silhouette that was still able to offer plenty of support with ample cushioning. This new Uptempo line managed to fill the void for those players that did not fit into just one category. Multi-talented players. The Nike Air Max Uptempo 95 was also the first shoe with heel-to-toe visible Air.
Shown above, one of the first OG colorways to drop had the shoe done in a White, Black and Red color scheme. It’s no surprise that several Chicago Bulls players from the 72-10 team wore them throughout the season. Now returning in OG form, this Air Max Uptempo 95 features a White leather upper with Black nubuck-like overlays on the mudguard that extends up to the heel. White stitched “AIR” branding appears on the eyestay while the Red Swoosh logos and pull tabs add some nice pop to the shoe.
Pippen inspired this hybrid model, but by the next year, players such as Chris Webber, Kevin Garnett and Mitch Richmond were all rocking a fresh pair on the court. Whether you’re an ‘80’s baby who’s in need of a fresh new pair or simply a sneakerhead who respects the OGs of the game, this pair is definitely not one to sleep on. The Nike Air Max Uptempo 95 OG White Black Red is available now at select stores such as Chmielna20.
